Quick Word from Pastor Rob
Life is filled with opportunities. To a great degree it is how we handle those opportunities that determine the direction our life takes. We’ve all heard the expression “opportunity knocks” and it simply means that something has come our way and we should take advantage of it. As a Christian I would also add that we should only take hold of opportunities that are within God’s will and not ones that are sinful or reckless.
We should not take opportunity for granted. Many times because of carelessness or pride we forego opportunities assuming that they will come back later, maybe, maybe not. I think two common killers of opportunity are fear and doubt. Peter had a once in a lifetime opportunity when Jesus called him out of the boat and onto the water. However, he allowed both fear and doubt to sink him and though he still had a great story to tell it was flawed.
We should look for opportunities to do good. The spirit of Christianity is that we are to look to serve first rather than be served. We are to minister first rather than be ministered to. What are some good things that we can do? We can share our faith, treat others honestly and fairly, and extend a helping hand. If you stop and think about it there are many incredible ways you can do good.
Galatians 6:10 explains it this way: “Therefore as we have opportunity let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith”.
